MyTakeOnHealth Oklahoma Challenge School Video Contest aims to teach Oklahoma students the importance of healthy living by challenging them to create healthy TV-type advertisements. The video advertisements will help to increase awareness in Oklahoma of the link between the national obesity epidemic and high rates of chronic disease, both of which are often the result of poor lifestyle choices. The ultimate goal of the school video contest is to further educate Oklahoma children on the need to live well, stay off drugs, and prevent chronic disease.
Prizes in monthly contest include
#1 video receives $3,500
#2 video receives $1,500
School of #1 video receives $1,000

Video Format: The healthy videos should be in television commercial format of 30 to 60 seconds in length. Videos longer than 60 seconds will not be accepted. The target audience is all children or adults in Oklahoma who are at risk for chronic disease, drug use, or being overweight or obese (a clear majority of our population). The video can be staged as a short play, commercial, news broadcast, talk show, music video, animation, documentary, etc.
Video Topics: Videos should be created to address the need for healthy/active living or chronic disease/drug Prevention. Students/groups can submit up to two videos total. Suggested topics include (but are not limited to) the following:
- the importance of good nutrition
- why maintaining a healthy body weight is beneficial
- why being overweight/obese poses health dangers
- the importance of getting regular physical exercise
- the perils of smoking
- specific chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer, stroke
- the importance of chronic disease prevention
- the link between obesity and the rise in chronic disease
- what chronic diseases cost us and why we want to avoid them
- drug/alcohol prevention
Eligibility: Any 2008-2009 Oklahoma student in Middle School or High School or the equivalent there of may apply. Students must be at least 13 years of age to enter a video in this contest. Schools can have more than one individual/group enter the video contest. However, only one group can be responsible for each video. In addition, the students producing the video must all be from the same school.
NOTE: If any group of individuals elects to collaborate on an Entry, they are required to designate one (1) person, 13 years of age or older, as the agent of the group to enter the Contest, agree to these rules and accept the prize on behalf of the group. Due to federal laws governing the internet, the person who creates the account and submits the video must be 13 years of age, though other members of his/her group may be younger. Neither Sponsor nor any of the Contest Parties are liable for any disputes between collaborators arising under or related to the Contest. |
